Accessibility

Our Commitment
AIB is committed to ensuring that the Future Sparks website is accessible to as many users as possible, including people with disabilities. We aim to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.
Accessibility and inclusion are core to our approach, and we are continually working to improve the user experience for all visitors.
Current Status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, due to the issues and limitations listed below.
Accessibility Features
We have implemented the following features to support accessibility:
- Responsive layout with scalable text: the site adapts well to various screen sizes, and text scales appropriately for better readability
- Logical content structure and use of headings: pages such as the FAQs use consistent heading tags (e.g. <h1>,<h2>) to present clear page structure
- Presence of a “Skip to content” link: visible at the top of key pages, aiding keyboard navigation
- Cookie consent management: compliant with EU regulations and usable with keyboard and assistive technologies
- Contact details clearly displayed: including phone number and email in accessible text format for ease of use
- Semantic and accessible contact forms: form elements such as “School Details” include proper labels, enabling screen-reader users to understand input fields
- Colour contrast across most text elements meets WCAG 2.1 AA requirements; however, there are some instances where contrast may be insufficient. These are currently under review as part of our ongoing accessibility efforts
Areas for Improvement
We are aware of the following areas that do not yet meet full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance:
-
- Some text with insufficient colour contrast, which may impact users with visual impairments
- Some links are without discernible or descriptive text, affecting screen reader interpretation and user understanding
- Form control contrast and some field labels are not clearly programmatically associated, limiting usability for assistive technologies
- Missing field labels or unclear field purposes for screen reader users in some form elements
- Links that lead to different destinations but share the same or unclear link text, reducing clarity and predictability
- Some images are missing appropriate alternative text, making them inaccessible to screen reader users
- Empty heading tags in places where content structure is unclear
- Tab focus indicators are not visually evident, which may cause confusion for keyboard-only users
- Some pages lack a clear <h1>heading and use an image instead, which may make it harder for screen readers to interpret the page’s main title
- Some downloadable documents (e.g., PDFs) may not be fully accessible, such as lacking proper tagging, reading order, colour contrast or text alternatives
This list is not exhaustive.
We are continuing to audit and review the site to uncover and resolve additional accessibility barriers.
Exemptions
Some older documents and content are not required, by law, to be made accessible (visit European Union (Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications of Public Sector Bodies) Regulations 2020 for more information on exemptions).
Planned Improvements
We are committed to improving the accessibility of this website and continue to make updates as part of an ongoing review process. This includes refining content structure, enhancing compatibility with assistive technologies, and addressing any barriers identified through testing and user feedback.
We are currently undertaking a reskin of the website to improve both its visual design and accessibility, ensuring better usability for all users. Our goal is to create a more inclusive and accessible digital experience over time.
